I decided to comment on Jasmine’s post which can be found here. I really enjoyed the video that you included. For a short video that was less than five minutes, it was packed full of information, and I found myself engaged with the content. While I didn’t personally take notes while watching, I agree with your comment that this video would be a good resource for students to take notes on some of the impacts of lack of sleep, what happens to the body during sleep, and conditions that can prevent adequate sleep. I agree that a Quizlet quiz would be a good method to test students on their retention of the video so that they can obtain feedback about their knowledge and revisit parts of the video as needed.
I am intrigued by the activity that you proposed regarding sleep diaries. I know that many smartwatches contain a feature to track the user’s sleep. Would you adapt your activity to utilize this information for students that use a smartwatch? If so, how would you go about integrating it? I think it might be interesting if you expanded the sleep diary beyond solely tracking sleeping conditions to having participants also rate their sleep on a scale from one to five, and then compare it with the sleep quality scores obtained by the participant’s smartwatch, if applicable, to see if there is a correlation.
Another interesting way that your activity could be adapted would be to have participants track in their sleep diary when they turned off their electronics. I recall reading that the blue light often used in electronic devices can hinder sleep, so it might be interesting to see if there are any trends observed between the length/quality of participants’ sleep and when they unplugged from their devices.
